Letβs be honest: cleaning with a toddler and a baby at home is less about keeping the house perfect and more about keeping it functional. π
Some days I get loads done. Other days, Iβm proud if everyone is fed, the laundry is vaguely under control, and the floor is visible. π
Hereβs what a typical cleaning day looks like for me. π‘β¨
π Morning Reset
Once weβre up and breakfast is done, I try to do a quick kitchen reset.
β Clear the breakfast dishes
𧽠Wipe down the table and counters
π§Ή Quick sweep around the kitchen
ποΈ Make the beds (or at least pull the blankets up π)
π§Ί Start one load of laundry
I donβt aim for spotless. I just like starting the day with the main areas feeling a little less chaotic.
π§Έ Mid-Morning: Toddler + Baby Life
This is usually when the house gets messy againβ¦ almost immediately. π
While the baby is playing or napping and my toddler is occupied, Iβll tackle one small job:
π§Ή Vacuum the main living areas
π§Ό Wipe fingerprints off doors/cabinets
π§Έ Pick up toys
π½ Quick bathroom clean
π± Water plants if needed
The key for me is one thing at a time. I donβt try to deep-clean the entire house while supervising two tiny humans. That would be a recipe for frustration. π
𧺠Laundry⦠The Never-Ending Story
Laundry gets its own category because, with little ones, it basically deserves one. π
My goal is usually one load a day:
β‘οΈ Wash
β‘οΈ Dry
β‘οΈ Fold
β‘οΈ Put away
And if I only manage the first two steps? Thatβs okay too. π
Sometimes the clean laundry lives in a basket for a day or two. We survive.
π½οΈ After Lunch
Lunch somehow creates an entire second round of dishes. π
So I do another quick reset:
π½οΈ Load/unload the dishwasher
𧽠Wipe the high chair
π§Ή Sweep under the table
π§Ό Wipe kitchen surfaces
π§Έ Quick toy pickup
I also try to involve my toddler in the cleanup. It may take twice as long, but weβre learning that cleaning up is just part of life. π₯°
π΄ During Nap Time
If both kids happen to sleep at the same timeβ¦ ππ
I have a choice:
Clean OR sit down.
And honestly? Sometimes I choose the sofa. βποΈ
If I have the energy, I might do a slightly bigger task like:
β¨ Clean the bathroom
β¨ Mop the floors
β¨ Change bed sheets
β¨ Dust
β¨ Organize one small area
But I donβt believe every nap has to become a cleaning marathon.
π Evening Reset
After dinner, I like doing a final little reset so I donβt wake up to yesterdayβs chaos.
π½οΈ Kitchen cleaned
𧽠Counters wiped
π§Ή Kitchen floor swept
π§Έ Toys back in their baskets
π§Ί Laundry put away (if Iβm feeling ambitious π)
ποΈ Living room tidied
Then Iβm DONE. π
No scrubbing baseboards at 10 p.m. over here.
π§Ό What I Clean Every Day vs. Weekly
Daily:
𧽠Kitchen surfaces
π½οΈ Dishes
π§Ή High-traffic floors
π½ Quick bathroom touch-up when needed
π§Έ Toy pickup
π§Ί One laundry load
A few times a week:
π§Ό Bathrooms
π§Ή Thorough vacuuming
𧽠Mopping
ποΈ Changing sheets
When I get around to it:
β¨ Deep cleaning
β¨ Decluttering
β¨ Organizing cupboards
β¨ Those mysterious corners that somehow collect everything π
π€ The Biggest Lesson Iβve Learned
Having a clean home with a toddler and baby doesnβt mean having a spotless home.
There will be toys everywhere. There will be crumbs on the floor. There will be laundry waiting to be folded. There will probably be a random sock in the kitchen. π§¦π
And thatβs okay.
My goal isnβt perfect.
Itβs simply to create a home that feels comfortable, clean enough, and peaceful enough for our little family. π‘π€
Some days the house looks amazing.
Some days it looks like two tiny tornadoes came through.
Both are normal. πͺοΈπΆπ§Έ
And tomorrow, weβll just reset and start again. β¨
